Sunset In Livorno, Italy

Sunset In Livorno, Italy

During the cruise, we were scheduled to have dinner at 6 PM every day…just in time for sunset. I made a habit of ordering early, excusing myself from the table, and coming back with sunset photos to show off to my fellow dinner guests. Here’s how the sky looked from Livorno’s harbor on October 21st, 2015. A larger version is viewable here.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Sutro Beach Panorama

Sutro Beach Panorama

It was a nice day and I had some free time, so I decided to explore a place I’d never seen before. I took the bus to the literal end of the road – Geary Boulevard, specifically – and ended up at Sutro Baths/Point Lobos. This is at the distant northwestern tip of San Francisco, and more remote than most touristy places. Aside from the long ride, it takes a little climbing to get down to this beach. Definitely worth the effort, though! Larger version is viewable here.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Santa Cruz From The Sky

Santa Cruz From The Sky

There are few things more inspiring than seeing the Earth from a plane. Here’s a glimpse of the Santa Cruz mountains during my flight back from Mexico. Larger version viewable here.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Sambava Tomato Frog

Here’s a colorful inhabitant of the Osher Rainforest at the California Academy of Sciences. Larger version is available here.

Tequila Tasting

Tequila Tasting

I should preface this by saying that I don’t drink; I’m a water, tea, and milk kind of guy, so I went around taking photos while everyone else was taking shots. This was taken at El Baston del Rey, a tequila factory that was part of a city tour in Puerto Vallarta. But since today is apparently National Tequila Day, I thought I’d post it.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Glimmering Sunset

Glimmering Sunset

This week’s challenge calls for a muse. You might have noticed I have a thing for the ocean and sunsets. Granted, I’m a nature lover in general, but there’s something alluring about the ocean; it gives you a sense of scale and your location on the Earth. You can watch the sun vanish before your eyes, giving you a greater insight of the astronomy and physics involved. The horizon practically begs you to venture forth and find out what’s out there. The ocean is one Earth’s great remaining mysteries; you can just stand there and wonder what lurks beneath the surface. You can breathe in the salty air, feel the wind your skin, and hear the waves endlessly crashing onto the shore…Yeah, I love it. This is one of many photos I took during my most recent trip. I’ll be posting more throughout the week; though they won’t all be sunsets, they’ll definitely involve oceans.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Fresh, Or: Shining Raindrops

Shining Raindrops

This week’s photo challenge is all about freshness. For me, there’s nothing quite so fresh as raindrops on a blooming flower. Large version also available here.
