Just some of the many, many flowers growing at the San Francisco California Conservatory of Flowers. Larger version is viewable here.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Lily Pond Reflection

Lily Pond Reflection

One of the cooler features at the San Francisco Conservatory of Flowers is a lily pond inside the building. If it’s not to crowded, you can walk right up to it and enjoy the view. Considering how many tourists see it every day, it’s amazing how clean and serene it is. Larger version viewable here.

Bonsai, Old And New

Bonsai Old And New

These are just a couple of the many bonsai on display during the Cherry Blossom Festival. Amazing how something so tiny could be so beautiful…Large version available here.

California Scrub Jay

California Scrub Jay

Large version available here. I followed this one around for about fifteen minutes, and he let me get surprisingly close. It’s almost like he’s striking a pose…

Weekly Photo Challenge: Scale, Or: Bottlebrush

BottlebrushThis week’s photo challenge is all about scaling, so I took this close-up of a bottlebrush plant. These are normally quite small, but they look amazing (if a bit bizarre) up close. For reference (and to mess with the perspective), there’s a car parked just out of focus.

It also reminded me of a certain song…

Weekly Photo Challenge: Serenity, Or: A Pacific Morning

A Pacific Morning

This week’s challenge calls for serenity, and it reminded me of a shot I took during a morning walk at the Kona Coast Resort in Hawaii.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Serenity, Or: A Moment In The Jungle

A Moment In The Jungle

When visiting a famous landmark like Akaka Falls, it’s easy to overlook the smaller, more peaceful surroundings leading up to it.

Weekly Photo Challenge: New, Or: Raw Kona Coffee Beans

Raw Kona Coffee Beans

This week’s challenge calls for something new, and there’s nothing quite like raw coffee beans. You ever wonder where some of your Starbucks and Peet’s Coffee come from? Greenwell Farms on the Big Island has you covered. And I can attest, the island’s fresh brews are way better than anything you can find in the mainland. I normally abstain from coffee, but their Autumn Harvest was ridiculously good!
