Soundtrack Saturdays: Tekken 6 – Yodeling In Meadow Hill (Hidden Retreat)
Continuing my Tekken fix from the last two weeks, I delved deeper into Tekken 6’s OST and found this gem buried deep in the playlist. This is a song exclusive to to the Bloodline Rebellion, which was a re-release of the previous game, but with more characters and rebalanced combat mechanics. “Yodeling In Meadow Hill” continues in the series’ tradition of trying out different genres and blending them together. It’s hard to say if it’s a parody – yodeling, sheep, and the Matterhorn don’t really work with the game’s dark and demonic theming – but it’s undeniably catchy. And if you think it’s silly, you should check out this hilariously cheesy High School Musical parody track in the Wii U version of Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Not so bad now, huh?
If you want more Bloodline Rebellion, you can find the full OST here.

Soundtrack Saturdays: Double Dragon Neon – Final Palace
Double Dragon was one of the greatest beat’em up games of the late 80s-early 90s. It followed the exploits of Billy and Jimmy Lee as they destroyed their city’s criminal underworld. While not as popular as Final Fight or Streets of Rage, Double Dragon had enough of a following to earn several ports and sequels. The series was thought long dead until Double Dragon Neon was announced in 2012. It captured the best aspects of the beat’em genre: tons of crazy enemies (including a gloriously hammy Skeletor ripoff), flashy moves, responsive controls, and rewarding multiplayer tactics. It also had a small but incredible soundtrack composed by Jake Kaufman; many of the songs parodied the likes of the Beastie Boys, Marvin Gaye, Freddie Mercury, and other iconic music from the time period of the original game. The Final Palace theme is one huge homage to just about every cheesy action/spy movie, and it works perfectly in which the level it’s set.
If you want more Double Dragon Neon, you can find the OST here and on Jake Kaufman’s Bandcamp page.
Good gaming, good music.

May The Verse Be With You!
Hey, folks. Have a Star Wars and/or literature geek like me on your holiday list? You might want to check out William Shakespeare’s Star Wars.
No, seriously. This does exist, and it is awesome. It’s the entirety of A New Hope rewritten to look like The Bard of Avon’s writing, right down to the iambic pentameter, chorus, and stage play formatting. Everything is there, from Han Solo shooting Greedo to the duel between Darth Vader and Obi Wan Kenobi. Not to mention the dramatic musings of R2-D2:
“This golden droid has been a friend, ’tis true,/ And yet I wish to still his prating tongue!/ An imp, he calleth me? I’ll be reveng’d,/ And merry pranks aplenty I shall play/ Upon this pompous droid C-3PO!/ Yet not in language shall my pranks be done:/ Around both humans and droids I must/ Be seen to make such errant beeps and squeaks/ That they shall think me simple. Truly, though,/ Although with sounds obilque I speak to them, I clearly see how I shall play my part,/ And how a vast rebellion shall succeed/ by wit and wisdom of a simple droid.”
Zounds.
