This week’s challenge calls for something close up, and I remembered taking this photo of a glass pistol during the tequila factory tour in Mexico. All the little imperfections in the cork and the light reflected in the barrel look pretty neat at this angle. Since today is apparently National Tequila Day, I thought it’d be worth posting. Talk about putting the shot in shot glass!

Tequila Tasting
I should preface this by saying that I don’t drink; I’m a water, tea, and milk kind of guy, so I went around taking photos while everyone else was taking shots. This was taken at El Baston del Rey, a tequila factory that was part of a city tour in Puerto Vallarta. But since today is apparently National Tequila Day, I thought I’d post it.
Weekly Photo Challenge: Parrots Back To Back
This week’s challenge calls for halves, and I remembered seeing these parrots hanging out while their cages are being cleaned. Large versions available here and here.
Lap Pool
Most of the pools at Paradise Village are noisy and crowded in the afternoon. But if you want some peace, quiet, and relief from the searing summer heat, this little lap pool hidden near the hotel’s center is worth checking out.
Weekly Photo Challenge: At The End Of The Pier
Another day at the ocean. Here’s what the view looks like from the hut in the previous photo. It’s too dangerous to go out on the very tip of the rocks, but it’s home to a small group of sea birds. When the tide starts rising, the spray from the waves make it all the way inside the hut. Large version available here.
Weekly Photo Challenge: Afternoon On The Pier
Another day at the ocean. The beach at Paradise Village ends at a rocky pier with a small lookout hut. It’s a very popular place for people looking to beat the heat and take some photos; it’s not usual for small crowds to show up for the sunsets. But on afternoons like this, you can take a book and relax amongst the crashing waves. Large version available here.
Weekly Photo Challenge: Dog in Surf
For the next entry into the muse challenge, here’s another shot along the same coast in Nuevo Vallarta. I think everyone should walk along the beach at least once in their lives; it’s peaceful, quiet, serene…and you never know what you’ll run into in the waves. Kind of like this friendly stray that was enjoying the day; I was worried about approaching him, but he only followed me for a bit before going back to his own fun in the sun.
Weekly Photo Challenge: Glimmering Sunset
This week’s challenge calls for a muse. You might have noticed I have a thing for the ocean and sunsets. Granted, I’m a nature lover in general, but there’s something alluring about the ocean; it gives you a sense of scale and your location on the Earth. You can watch the sun vanish before your eyes, giving you a greater insight of the astronomy and physics involved. The horizon practically begs you to venture forth and find out what’s out there. The ocean is one Earth’s great remaining mysteries; you can just stand there and wonder what lurks beneath the surface. You can breathe in the salty air, feel the wind your skin, and hear the waves endlessly crashing onto the shore…Yeah, I love it. This is one of many photos I took during my most recent trip. I’ll be posting more throughout the week; though they won’t all be sunsets, they’ll definitely involve oceans.
Weekly Photo Challenge: A Round Of Drinks
This week’s challenge calls for something colorful, and I recalled something I saw in Mexico. Taking a Puerto Vallarta city tour all day will make anyone thirsty. Not surprisingly, the restaurant I stopped at had these drinks stylishly on display. I don’t drink, so I settled for bottled water! Large version available here.
El Eden Falls, Puerto Vallarta
As a follow-up to the previous post, here’s the waterfall at the El Eden Zip-Line. I didn’t have enough time to set up and take some really good shots, and it was crowded with people jumping from the rocks. At least I managed to get one decent photo as a souvenir…Larger version available here.
